Home Remedies for Skin Whitening



A clear white complexion is everybody's dream. Pigmented and patchy complexion is generally a reason of concern for many. People with darker skin tone usually have more quantity of melanin content in their skin. Darkening of the skin is also called as pigmentation and in extreme cases hyperpigmentation.

Some people have dark skin from birth; however some people develop pigmentation due to skin disorder, sun tan, adrenal disorder, malnutrition, sun sensitivity or vitamin deficiency. But by using some easy home remedies, the problem of dark and patchy skin can be cured to a great extent.

Discoloration of the skin reduces the beauty which is not acceptable at all. Various factors including improper skin care results to this problem. The other reasons like stress on life, busy work schedule, wrong food routine, wrong products used for skin etc. are responsible for this skin damage. Dark spots, blemishes and hyper pigmentation darken the skin tone and the actual skin color cannot be seen. There are innumerous cosmetics in the market for lightening the skin texture. But it always less expensive and easier to use the home remedies for skin whitening.

Face mask made up of ordinary ingredients from the kitchen will help you to tone your skin color. Mix 1 tsp of honey, half tsp of almond oil, 1 tsp of juice from lemon and 1 tsp of milk powder. Apply this pack on the face and wash after 15 mins. This removes the tan and also makes the skin radiant. Mixture of 1tbsp of flour of gram, 3 drops of lime juice and 2 tbsp of raw milk lightens the dark skin and has to be applied for 4 weeks continuously and then once a week. An application of smashed mint leaves for 15 days will give a wonder effect. Grated tomatoes, almond and lime juice are also included in the home remedies for skin whitening.

Skin exfoliation once a week is very much essential. Mixture of oatmeal, milk and brown sugar when applied on face will help in the removal of dead cells through exfoliation process and lightens the skin color. Glycolic acid, kojic acid, lactic acid, lemon juice, mulberry extract, vitamin B3, Emblica powder, bearberry extract and alpha Arbutin are few home remedies for skin whitening that inhibit the melanin production. These are responsible for diminishing problems like age spots, sun damage, acne marks, freckles, old scars, birth marks, uneven skin tones and dark elbows.

Home remedies for skin whitening include few more tips for restoring the skin color. Slices of potatoes have bleaching effect on the skin. So if they are kept over the facial skin the bleaching effect will help to lighten the dark skin. To remove the tan a pinch of turmeric powder mixed with lemon juice can be applied on the skin. Orange peels grinded after drying when mixed with curd forms a unique facial mask that removes the discoloration. Sandalwood paste if applied on the face bleaches the skin efficiently without damaging the cells. Use guard against direct exposure to sunlight.



It is essential to drink 10 to 15 glasses of water on daily basis. Hydration helps in skin nourishment. To flush out toxins fibrous foods like fruits and vegetables are to be eaten every day. Intake of a balanced diet takes care of the hyper pigmentation and treats other complications. Mercury, steroids and hydroquinone should be avoided for skin whitening purpose. These results to diseases like thyroid problem, liver damage and leukemia. Home remedies for skin whitening will perform your skin care naturally and keep you safe from these side effects.

Applying turmeric powder with lime juice helps remove tan and lightens the skin colour. Also oat meal along with curd and tomato juice when applied on the face works well against pigmentation. Similarly dry orange peel with curd helps remove blemishes when applied onto the face for 10-15 minutes. One can also make use of mint leaves on the face in case of pigmentation.

Today the market is flooded with thousands of skin care products which promise instant glow and fairness. But these products contain harmful chemicals like hydrogen peroxide and hydroquinone which can damage the skin.

Using simple home remedies is always the best option in case of skin trouble. These remedies are safe as they have no side effects. Also they have a more nourishing and long lasting effect.

Home remedies like using a tablespoon of gram flour mixed with 2 tablespoons of raw milk and 2-3 drops of lime juice when applied on the face removes pigmentation. Again a mixture of grated tomato with 2-3 drops of lime juice works excellently. Bearberry supplements derived from bearberry plant contain arbutin which is a natural skin whitener. Taking bearberry supplements over a period of time helps in skin whitening. Potato is another great natural remedy for pigmented and uneven skin tones. Potato juice contains bleaching agent that is helpful in brightening and whitening the skin. The best way to use potato is to prepare a mushy paste and spread it evenly on the face.

Along with the use of natural home remedies it's also important to maintain a healthy diet if you wish for smooth complexion. One must include fresh fruits and vegetables in everyday diet. It's also good to include flax seed, whole grain foods, and raw organic nuts in the diet. While it is important to include a few items in your meal, it's also important to exclude some. One should avoid battered or oily food, greasy snack food, alcohol and junk food to have a healthy radiant skin.
