The irritation or itching around the anus is called Rectal Itching. It occurs due to increased moisture, or sitting for prolonged hours, or eczema. The irritation causes soreness and a desire to itch, but the discomfort increases because it is very embarrassing to itch in public and even itching in private gives no relief. At times too much itching could cause further damage leading to bleeding.
Some reasons for rectal itching could be eczema, pinworms, excess sweating, hemorrhoids, diabetes, and lack of personal hygiene, fungal infection or stress. It could worsen when the affected area comes in contact with water to which some mild soaps or perfumes have been added. The use of toilet or tissue paper would increase the problem.
Some precaution should be taken to prevent Rectal Itching from worsening further.
Tight undergarments should be avoided and loose ones should be used instead so that the air can pass freely, thus preventing moisture. They should be changed more often during the day to prevent the anus from coming in contact with the dampness in the innerwear. The temptation to itch continuously should be avoided as it could cause infection. Some foods like tomatoes, beer or eggs that aggravate the problem should be avoided.
Some simple home remedies can reduce the burning sensation and give relief. One could just sit in a tub of warm water without oils or soaps. This cleanses the area around the anus and gives relief. A little oatmeal however can be added to water to cleanse the itching area. The anus should not be scrubbed too hard while bathing as this could causes rashes on the skin, thus increasing rectal itching.
Applying a decoction made from soap nuts is also very good. It can be prepared by soaking the soap nuts for a few hours. They should then be boiled and the contents should then be filtered to discard the seeds. The decoction should be applied on the affected area after cooling. Petroleum Jelly can also be applied on the affected area to prevent it from drying and giving the pricking feeling, as it is an excellent moisturizer.
Dried orange peels have tremendous cosmetic and medicinal properties. A paste can be formed by mixing dried orange peels to a little water. Applying this on the affected area for a few days is sure to give relief.
Witch Hazel is great home remedy. A little witch hazel can be applied to the itching area with the help of cotton. This can be repeated several times over the day to soothe the itching sensation and give comfort. Almond oil or Coconut oil when applied on the affected area provides instant relief.
Tee tree oil or Aloe Vera oil should be applied to soothe the burning sensation around the affected area.
Water should be consumed in large quantity as this flushes out all toxins from the body, thus helping in preventing itching. A balanced diet consisting of fruits, vegetables and fibre will keep the skin healthy, thus avoiding problems like rectal itching.
