Leucoderma or white skin gives a very unattractive look to the infected person. The white patches appear on the skin due to lack of the pigment Melanin in the layers of the skin. In the beginning, a small patch appears and then gradually other patches appear and form into large patches making the person look ugly. The causes for Leucoderma could be stress, worms, jaundice, gastric disorders or typhoid.
Luckily, there are some simple home remedies that can cure Leucoderma.
Seeds of radish can be mixed with a little vinegar to form a paste after grinding. This can be applied on the affected area to gradually clear the white patches. The vegetable Goose foot should be eaten daily as it is an effective home remedy. The juice can be extracted from its leaves and applied on the affected area.
Turmeric has been used since ages as a home remedy for many ailments. A mixture can be prepared by soaking a little turmeric in eight times water. This can then be boiled till only 1/8th quantity is left. A little mustard oil should then be mixed to it. This mixture can be preserved in an airtight bottle and applied 3-4 times daily for a few days.
The red clay found near the hills can be mixed in equal quantity of ginger juice to form a paste. This paste can be applied on the affected skin to slowly restore the skin's colour. Beverages like tea, coffee, and aerated drinks should be avoided as they cause irritation to some kinds of skins.
Drinking water should be left overnight in a copper container and can be consumed early morning on an empty stomach. This serves a dual benefit of curing Leucoderma and easing constipation. Another effective home remedy for Leucoderma is to make a paste of dried ginger leaves and apply it as a dressing on the affected area and wash off after some time. This will lighten the white scars over a period of time.
The decoction of Holy basil can be applied on the white patches, or a few leaves of holy basil can be eaten raw. Grind Black Gram and mix with water to form a paste. This can be spread on the affected area to reduce the white patches. This is a cheap and effective home remedy for Leucoderma.
Wrong or faulty eating habits always prove costly in the long run. Therefore, fish should not be consumed with milk as this is sure to cause skin problems in the future. Patients of this disease should completely avoid fish and red meat in their diet.
Ayurvedic seeds of babchi are known to be very effective for Leucoderma. A few seeds can be soaked in ginger liquid, and the liquid is to be changed everyday till three days. These seeds can then be dried and ground to form a powder which is to be consumed regularly with milk.
People suffering from Leucoderma should limit the use of salt and sour foods in their daily diet as this could cause further harm.
