Home Remedies for Glaucoma, Natural Treatment



Glaucoma is a disease of the eye and specialized treatment is an absolute necessity. Make sure you take the utmost care when treating the glaucoma of the eye. Glaucoma is one of the leading causes of blindness all over the world. It is caused by the destruction of the primary seeing nerve in the eye, called Optic nerve. When we see a particular thing, it is the optic nerve that transmits the image of the object or sends impulse to the brain. Now the front part of the eye socket is filled with a fluid called aqueous humor which nourishes the nerve fibers with in the eye. The normal pressure exerted by the fluid on the structures of the eye should range between 8 to 22 millimeters on mercury reading. When this pressure, also known as intraocular pressure, rises, it may cause damage to the ganglion cells of the optic nerve, leading to glaucoma. The delicate fibers and tissues of the optic nerve are prone to easy damage by the elevated intraocular pressure.

Glaucoma falls in to two categories: open angle glaucoma and closed angle glaucoma. Closed angle glaucoma is sudden, painful, and progresses quickly. Open angle glaucoma is the chronic type. It progresses slowly and silently, and becomes noticeable only when it is too late to do anything. This type of glaucoma is thereby often termed as the 'silent thief of the sight'. Glaucoma generally affects elderly people (aged 80 or over the age of 80).

4. Seeing of halos around lights
5. Blurred vision
6. Nausea

8. Fixed, mid-dilated pupil

4. Food stuffs like tea, coffee, tobacco, alcohol should be avoided, for they aggravate the hypertension in the eyes.
