There are over 100 different types of Arthritis diagnosed by the medical science till today, approximately over 10 million people are affected by this disease in USA alone. Arthritis is a problem related to the joints where one bone moves over another bone, with cartilages, covering the bones to prevent them from rubbing with each other. Ligaments hold the bones at the right place and contraction and relaxation of muscles make the bones move. The joint cavity contains synovial fluid providing nourishment to the cartilage and joint, produced by synovium membrane.
The early signs of arthritis are stiffness or snapping of joints when moved after a period of inactivity. Some people experience early symptoms of arthritis by feeling pain in the joints for sometime while getting out of bed in the morning. Joint tenderness, reduced movement of joints with or with out pain, swelling in the joints, feeling of warmth in the joints, persistent flu, anemia, mild fever along with joint pain, rash on the joints are symptoms of one or the other type of arthritis.
In arthritis, the pain in the joints is symmetrical, joints on both the sides of the body will have pain rather than in the joint on one side. Growth in the flexibility of fingers, thumb, limbs or developing slight limp while walking with back pain are sure symptoms of arthritis. Fatigue with out any physical activity, weakening of immunity system without any reason, voice turning hoarse and sudden loss of weight are also symptoms of arthritis which affects the immunity system of the body and internal organs.
Any viral or bacterial infection, injury, auto-immunity disorder, wear and tear of cartilages, lack of synovial fluid or combination of other factors disturbing the mechanism of joint cause arthritis. Due to growing age cartilages become more brittle which makes them prone to wear and tear which is irreparable, damaged cartilages cause immovability and severe pain during the movement. Damage to the bones of the joint due to an injury or muscle weakness also causes arthritis.
Obesity is also a reason for arthritis as joints bear most of the body weight and over weight people put more pressure on their joints particularly hips and knees which may cause misalignment of the joint. Hormonal imbalance, stress, infection, sudden shock may lead to an infection in synovial membrane to cause rheumatoid arthritis. Diseases caused due to viral and bacterial infections like lupus, viral hepatitis, lyme disease, crohn's disease, flat foot, gout etc also cause arthritis. Auto immunity disorder where immunity system of the body gets stimulated and starts attacking its own tissues is also a state of arthritis.
